A Look Back at Our 10th Anniversary- The 2017 Media Film Festival

Our 10th year has been a particularly memorable one.  We wanted to mark this special milestone by including some exciting, new programs that would be both meaningful and enjoyable for our community.  From the time we rolled out the red carpet at the Media Theatre on Friday evening, through a jam packed day of programs on Saturday, to the glamorous After-Party in the Theatre’s legendary Crystal Room that ended the festivities, it proved to be a weekend to remember.

41 hand-selected, amazing short films, including 2 world premieres, were screened.  The work of local teen filmmakers was celebrated.  “Women Making Film” gathered for a brunch workshop at Media’s 320 Market Café, to talk about the unprecedented number of women directors and producers who are emerging in the world of independent film.  For the first time the Festival added a Live Script Read to our lineup with a Saturday afternoon reading of “When Harry Met Sally”, Nora Ephron’s Oscar nominated screenplay.  Featuring respected L.A. based actors Micah Hauptman and Jessica Barth, Philadelphia natives and West Chester grads, it was extremely well received by the audience; a unique experience of enjoying a classic film as a live theater production.

We are very grateful to all of the artists who provided the many wonderful films that made up the diverse program for our 10th year.  These are the dreamers and creators who bring their vision to life on the screen so we may enjoy it.  The Media Film Festival Jury chose 5 outstanding films to receive the newly created Aruffo-Rim Awards for outstanding artistic achievement, which included a cash prize:

JURY / Aruffo-Rim AWARDS

  • Best Drama:  Chasseur
  • Best Comedy:  Wifey Redux
  • Best Documentary:  Limbo
  • Best Horror Film: Studded Nightmare
  • Golden Trolley Award 2017:  The Audition

Special thanks to our Sponsors who make it all possible. Produced by the Media Arts Council (MAC), sponsors of the Media Film Festival included the Borough of Media, Michael R. Rhile Construction, Naturescapes  , Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, the Aruffo-Rim Agency and the Media Theatre

To the team of passionate volunteer who give their time, creativity and hard work to take on such an ambitious event – our deep appreciation.  Finally, a special thank you to our ever growing audience.  Saturday evening’s crowd  was near capacity for our 4th and final block of films.  We come together to have a shared experience of storytelling.  We may have laughed, we may have been moved or maybe even enlightened in some fashion.  This is what short, independent film offers us. Here’s to the year ahead and the anticipation of another great Media Film Festival for 2018.
